Lawn Wake IV

School is finally underway with work and my brain is still in "summer" mode. I think that one sentence sums up how awesome I'm doing. My sleeping pattern has been odd, in fact I took a nap at 7 and I woke up at 5 am. I know, impressive ain't it? Since there isn't much to talk about I think I'll reflect upon my very odd summer right after I say that ARCH 350 is fascinating yet boring at the same time. I know I know, I'll explain... next time.

Anyway, today I realized that my brain likes to cycle through various different styles of interest. As I've been clearly keeping track of my main interests every month for a bit I will share this now. However let's also add in the pattern for my friend and partner for a project who keeps consistently getting busy instead of working on the project. Let's call him George for now (no offense if your name is George).

June: Movies, Web Design, Email (George: Still in school)
July: Hanging out , Cooking, Game Design (George: Working)
August: Writing, Games, Rock Climbing (George: in Hawaii)
September: TV Series, Conceptual Design, Music (George: Sick)

Very strange pattern... but I don't really understand if it means anything. I suppose that's a good thing because if my life was a very predictable and consistent pattern I wouldn't really be too thrilled to know that my life is just a series of categorized impulses. Oh and "George" we gotta get to work, fool.

Those who know me personally are aware that I am a very artsy human being. I take notes in a sketchbook and I carry 5 different black pens, these should be obvious clues. It seems that the things I draw or focus on tend to change monthly as well, which is cool but not very useful if I had a job as an thematic illustrator or comic artist. I draw a lot of different things from tattoos to industrial designs. Here's a little doodle from Wednesday's class (I was paying attention in class, honest):
doodle1.jpg
I'm very lazy, I probably won't fill in the white spots with my marker and get on with life. I create some digital works too but let's save that for another day.

Speaking of aesthetic value, recently I've played a game called Bioshock, and it blew my mind like the first time I ate a taco, because tacos are pretty mind blowing. Seriously.

Oh I forgot to mention, the title of this post is named after a song by The Flashbulb. Isn't that unique? No? Well whatever, I thought it was cool.

a Late Introduction

So the blog seems to finally be viewable to the public and so I realized that the other fellow bloggers had an introduction of sorts. I didn't because... I have had other web pages and such and they all had "About" links... which basically was a page to describe who I was and the basic things that I do. Since I don't have this page anymore, I will promptly introduce myself.

I am Casey Yano, I am an artist and I believe in love and peace and the spreading of it. I think that one day we'll live in a happy world where we will all get along, and I think that being honest with people will let them be honest with me, and everyone will be honest with everyone. It will be great. My major is architecture and they don't have that here, so unfortunately I need to transfer away soon.

There, that's my "About"... paragraph. Gosh I need to study, I am behind. I am taking a few introductory courses this quarter and so far they have been pretty boring... to be honest. However the classes being boring aren't really their fault, but more because the classes go over many facts and information that I already know. I think it's one of those, "just in case you didn't know this stuff" kind of info.

I'm liking my classes here at the Bothell campus. My teacher is quite nice for my Motion and Mechanics class and since I took highschool physics the class has been a free ride for about 2 weeks now. I'm pretty excited to move on to the more advanced stuff, because the class is going to stray away from just physics and enter things that are more like engineering I believe.

My second class is about Environmental Issues... and it's also introductory. The two professors are very energetic indeed and they're quite knowledgeable on the subject. I haven't taken a class like this before so it's been very interesting so far learning about the environment and how terrible human beings are (especially us, Americans). I would say something like, "Stop polluting". But quite frankly I want a lot of numbers and data before I say such broad things.

My third class... I feel detached... there's just so many people (about 250) and the class is an hour long. I spend more time on the class' website then in the classroom itself. These Seattle classes... Apparently the next few classes I'm taking over at Seattle are going to be split up into smaller groups so perhaps that will be cool and maybe I will be noticed and if I am noticed I may get a better chance of doing better things like taking more advanced courses and getting into the ARCH program.

I am waiting for challenging assignments in all my classes. Bring it on, seriously- I'm getting bored just reading the book. I suppose that laying the foundation on which we will base our projects on is vital.

Oh if you want to contact/yell at me then my email address is like caseyy@u.wasington.edu. I will be happy to hear from you. Even if you send an email to yell at me. Wait... no. Be nice.

Sleeping Through an Earthquake

Hey folks, this entry in my blog is late and for no good reason. Seriously, I just didn't do it. I wasn't even doing anything productive last night. I was once fired for being honest, perhaps it will happen again. That would be a bummer, but seriously- I do apologize. I should've realized it was Friday night, the time of the week I usually write a blog entry.

Now that that's cleared (kind of) let's get on to more fascinating things in my life besides guilt. Let's see here... what is interesting in my life? Oh! Well for starters it would seem that some folks and I are going to start up a billiards club, so far we have 3 members and I think I know a few who would gladly join, making like 6- which I think may be enough for a club, though I hope there will be like 10-20 of us sometime in the near future. I want to have cake in my club. Yes, "The Cake of Exordium" I shall call it. Exordium means "the beginning" except it's very fancy and it's also fun to say. So if you want cake... you should join our club. You should also shoot some pool though, because it's good times and we'll probably be cracking "your mom" jokes along the way. I'm just joking, kind of.

So that is that and uh, during a a session of pool in the games room? What is that room called? There was another club that came in to have a meeting in the room which was the "Video Gaming Club" I think. Basically I think they talk about video games and play them, that sounds very interesting if you like video games and the fact that there is funding to support your hobby (if it's your hobby). Anyone reading a blog online would probably be interested in games. Hahaha I'm just kidding, that's stereotypical (or is it?). As much as I like games, I am a very selective person and I can't stand to play any games except like 3 of the best of the year due to the fact that my summer job involved game testing and I can't really blog about what I did there because I'll get fired, sued, and my life will be miserable.

So I finally got some homework from my class over at Seattle. One thing I noticed about big huge classes is that your grade in that course is determined by 4 things. Assignment 1, Assignment 2, Midterm, and Finals. Isn't that the saddest thing? What I'm saying is, there isn't much interaction with the professors or assistants because there's not much things to discuss in the course. It seems like it's a study, memorize, and test trifecta. I'm not too thrilled about this course anymore. This combination is like a death sentence for a procrastinator.

My other classes are more like high school, the way classes should be. Homework usually on a weekly basis, two or so projects, and two tests. There are also in-class discussions in case we didn't understand something (instead of appointing a meeting with a professor or assistant to ask questions). There's a huge difference between these two types of classes and to be honest, I'm learning a lot more here at the Bothell campus. I'm going to go visit the QSC (Quantitative Skills Center) to get some help next week because the guys in there are geniuses. Especially Bao Ming, we call him "The Master" because it's frightening how much he knows and how fast he works. I also need to utilize the Writing Center... because someone I know works there, and it's always fun to bother people you know, especially when you have a valid excuse to do so.

Laser Beams

My goodness, it would seem that the weather is having mood swings. Oh, this also applies to bus stops. Yes, buses which I utilize to get to the UW Seattle. I have been 20 minutes early to an hour late. It seems that no one in this state has gotten used to strong winds yet and therefore someone needs to crash, which leads to me being stuck on a bus that moves slower than a turtle on crutches. This however has given me a reason to email and visit the professor because I have missed half a lecture. Twice. The professor is a good guy and all, but with a class of 250 people I don't really know him, he also doesn't know I exist- except maybe as the guy that came in half an hour late. Twice. We shall see how that goes.

So for my other class here at UWB I went on a field trip. Yeah that's right, a field trip. You're jealous. That's not even a question. However you shouldn't be jealous because it was a field trip to the outdoors and it happened to rain so much that the concentration of half of our group was focused on staying dry and warm. Since I happen to sing in the rain and ignore the cold I didn't have any issues there. So it turns out that this farm we visited, 21 Acres in Woodinville, happens to be this self sustained farm thing. That means that the farm recycles the water, soil, and happiness. There was also a goat, and apparently they can eat doom berries (blackberry bushes of death). I think they have a website... *10 seconds later*... ah yes, http://www.21acres.org/ it's very interesting if you care about the environment, which you do.

It's been pretty easy going for my other class, Motion and Mechanics. I have some quizzes, homework, and a bit of reading. All of which I'm familiar with.

So Halloween seems to be coming up and I have my arch350 midterm the next day. That is not cool. How is a man supposed to properly celebrate a holiday without the fear of failing a 40%-of-your-grade test the next day? He can't, that's how. I will be studying in the dark shadows of Halloween when kids will be ringing the door bell and such. I will yell and whine and rant in front of them and then give them candy. It's gonna be a terrible night. At least the weekend will be "Yeah I survived the midterms" weekend.

I am not ranting on this blog, I am serving as a warning to others. Some things are happy though. Be sure to notice them and embrace them because they are the only things that will prevent you from breaking down. Oh, there's a bit of sarcasm here and there.
Where are my pretty pictures? They will be up next time. The rain made me hesitate about bringing a camera to the farm =(.
